Renewable hydrogen in Italy is moving beyond its potential and becoming an increasingly tangible market.
A new support scheme for renewable hydrogen production – including green hydrogen and biohydrogen – has officially come into effect following the publication of the MASE Decree of 5 June 2026 in the Italian Official Gazette. Issued by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), the Decree entered into force on 8 August 2026.
The scheme targets hydrogen production for the industrial and transport sectors, in line with the objectives of Italy’s National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC).
